Don't Crash! Planning Ahead is the Best Way to Pass The Test!

Advance planning and sticking to a consistent study schedule; is the only way to successfully prepare your children for State Mandated Testing.Crash course studying can significantly undermine a student's test day performance. Students, who study at the last minute,  will more than likely forget what they hastily learned the night before. This will cause them to be unsure and uncertain on test day. Therefore hampering their overall test performance.

While having a well planned and consistent studying schedule can tremendously increase a child's self-confidence. The more secure and confident a child is on test day the better they may perform.

Simplistic Ways to Use Checklists with Children

Just as date books, appointment logs, and post-it notes may help you remember all the things you want to accomplish, checklists can be a systemized way to get your child on board with being independent. Checklists support responsibility and promote a sense of accomplishment for even the youngest child. They can also limit or eliminate the ongoing need for you to continuously remind your children of what you desire for them to do.

Getting Kindergarten Started the Right Way!

Kindergarten may be a scary adventure for many parents. Parents can support their kindergartner by simply talking with them on a daily bases. Conversations may be initiated over dinner, while riding in the car, or performing household duties. Offering open-ended questions supports communication and reasoning skills. Requiring children to provide more than one word answers builds vocabulary skills. Vocabulary development is a key to developing strong reading skills.

Summer In Full Swing-Planning a Family Vacation with Ease

Summer is a great time to adventure to new surroundings. Children enjoy the change of scenery and opportunities to explore and discover new things. There may be a few things to keep in mind when planning travel for the whole family.

1. Plan out your trip in advance. If traveling by car, include stops along the way.

2. Create a family survival kit to include:

Food: individually wrap servings of fresh fruit and veggies, snacks, and even mini sandwiches, 4oz of beverages

Portable games: electronic devices with fresh batteries and chargers, board games, playing cards

Books: print and audio

Music

Videos

3. Use a lunch bag or small portable cooler that is easily accessible with a few items for immediate. Have an additional bag(s) to hold the extra items that may be stored in the trunk or near the back hatch. If individual family members have distinct eating needs, then bags should be packed and labeled for each person.

4. Prepare sleeping items with travel sized pillows and blankets. Storing them in an extra large zip lock bag will allow them to be stored and kept clean when not in use but accessible when needed.

5. Arrange for mini stops or stretch breaks every 2-3 hours. Children will be cranky and irritable without unrestricted opportunities to move. Include a ball, jump rope, Frisbee, or other items for outdoor play during the gas or restroom stops.

6. To reduce travel stress, plan shorter trips if time is limited. Remember that children are easily entertained. They do not need much to be happy, so remember less is more. Do not feel pressured to see and do everything during this trip.
